The Danielsen Center for Nonviolent Communication and Development

DCNCD–Sierra Leone is a non-governmental organisation established to promote peace, nonviolent communication, youth empowerment, education and community development in Sierra Leone and beyond.

Founded in honour of the late Gert Skoczowsky-Danielsen, the organisation works with communities, institutions, young people and international partners to build a more peaceful, empathetic and resilient society.

Our Core Values

These values shape every programme, partnership and interaction at DCNCD.

Peace

We believe peace is not merely the absence of conflict but an active commitment to understanding, dialogue and mutual respect.

Compassion

Compassion is at the heart of everything we do — from how we communicate to how we serve our communities.

Nonviolence

We are committed to nonviolence as a principle, a practice and a skill that can be learned, taught and shared.

Empathy

Empathy enables us to understand others' perspectives and respond with care, creating the conditions for genuine connection.

Education

We believe education is a fundamental right and a powerful tool for personal growth and social transformation.

Youth Empowerment

Young people are not just the future — they are active agents of change today. We invest in their leadership and potential.

Inclusion

We serve all members of the community, with special attention to those who are most vulnerable or marginalised.

Intercultural Understanding

Building bridges across cultures, nations and backgrounds strengthens solidarity and enriches our shared humanity.

Community Development

Lasting change is built from within communities. We support locally-led development that strengthens people and places.

Social Cohesion

We work to repair and strengthen the social fabric that holds communities together — across ethnic, religious and cultural lines.
